An hour at the beach

I was in Dunbar the other day - killing time before Morgan had a birthday party and we ended up, with a kite, at the beach. Orla was with us too.

The pictures were taken on my mobile so forgive the quality..

I made a pattern with some shells and played around with the contrast/colours on the photo editor:

Orla likes to draw on the sand and dig in it with her hands:

The second picture is 'The Shapes' from Mister Maker - a CBeebies program.  The whole family are a shape so Orla asks us "draw me" and we draw a triangle and she puts the faces on.  So - I drew all of the shapes in the sand and she drew faces on them.  Simple things...  (Oh and for any perfectionists who watch Mister Maker - I know there is not a pentagon in the program - but we needed an extra shape.)

The kite is new to us this week and we have had a few successful flights now.  It took a while to get going as there wasn't much wind.  I finally got it up to the full length of the string - but on a small beach this meant it was flying over the sea.  So when the wind suddenly dropped the kite got a little wet...  We had to drag it in through the sea and sand - all fine though - I think it's almost dry now...

We also went to a cafe for a drink to hide from the rain for a bit and Morgan and Orla played with some of the toys there.  They played mainly with the castle - but there are no soldiers for it - so my inventive kids used the pigs and the cows from the Noah's Ark to attack and defend the castle.

And the chocolate brownies are to die for...
