Last night I implemented reward charts. They have never worked for us - after two days or first failure the child in question (usually Rua) has abandoned it. This time - all three of them have two charts and they are on the fridge for all to see - so there’s a bit of a competition between them ;-)
Morgan gets a sticker for cleaning his teeth properly twice a day (it’s an Aspie thing - he struggles with toothpaste/toothbrushes) he also gets a sticker for doing his homework
Ruaridh gets a sticker for doing his homework and one for getting ready for school.
Orla gets one for going to bed and one for staying in bed.
All perfectly achievable but each child is struggling with a few things. I started it yesterday evening after Ruaridh had refused to do his homework. I called them all into the kitchen and told them what the plan was and how they could earn their stickers and what earning stickers would achieve (they can choose something in Tesco or can save up to buy something bigger).
So after starting it last night Ruaridh immediately sat at the table to do his homework, Morgan went to clean his teeth and Orla ran upstairs to get her pyjamas on. Glorious!! Orla went to bed beautifully and for the first time in weeks didn’t come down or mess about once. We’ve had a lot of her getting out of bed to get things, asking for a hot water bottle, wanting a drink of water, lots of silly things. So this was the first time she had a brilliant night for so long - very welcome.
This morning came downstairs to a happy Ruaridh already dressed - this is usually his morning battle. Such a happy morning with him, no problems at all and he got his sticker. Orla woke up and asked for her stickers straight away.
So far so good - hoping it will last….
They all think it’s really funny what the others are having problems with.
Something had to be done - homework has become a huge problem here so this way they earn something for doing their homework. Hope tonight goes well - think positive thoughts...
Yay for the kids! *hugs*
